When you ask men this straightforward question, you would be surprised to see how many of them will hurry up in giving you the shortest possible answer. If you ask this question before all the other questions to ask a guy, most men will assume that you are extremely serious.
It’s funny to see them react like: “what do you mean ‘what do you believe is the purpose of a relationship’? It’s marriage, it’s happiness, it’s to make a family”, and all the possible answers anyone could think of. But is this truly the purpose of a relationship? Did your man actually thought about the actual purpose of a relationship? Is it that important? I think it is. The real question really is:
Can these questions be fun?
Good questions to ask a guy are both serious and fun? Because this simple question is serious, giving the fact that you are both intelligent people, it can also be a lot fun to answer. It could start a very stimulating conversation. Actually, all these 20 questions to ask a guy could spark a 5-hour savvy conversation. Last time I talked with a girl about this whole topic we spent hours and hours till morning talking about these things.
So, what exactly is the main purpose of asking a man this straightforward question? Well, you need to find out if he really wants a relationship, you want to find out if deep down in his heart and his mind, he knows his motivations, or you want to find out if he is simply following the general trend and does what everybody else around him is doing. Most people do this: they get involved in relationships without realizing that maybe they aren’t ready for a relationship yet.
Now, I don’t mean that some people are not “good enough” to have a relationship, what I
mean is that some people don’t realize what a relationship is, so they aren’t ready to commit to it. Some guys will answer that the purpose of a relationship is a [common goal] such as family, marriage, a business together or a [personal goal] such as “to be happy”, “to have someone”, sex etc. It all depends on what you are looking for in a man, in order to understand if his answer is satisfying or not.
What should I expect him to answer?
“What should I expect him to answer?” you may ask. Well, you want him to give you an answer that contains his realization that he will need to work on keeping the relationship healthy. You don’t get involved in a relationship mainly to take, but rather to give, and for that reason, the purpose of a relationship is mutual service.
He should know that he needs to do his best in order to keep the relationship working, therefore, his answer has to tell you that he actually thought this through and that he knows what is required of him in order to keep you or any other woman happy.
If you find questions like these a bit tough, it’s ok not to want to use all of them at once, but don’t use only your typical random questions to ask a guy. It’s alright to ask him whatever you want, as long as you are not afraid to ask him the questions that mean something to you.
Never be afraid of what he will think of you or that he might feel as you are taking an interview. It’s your life, and if you want a relationship with a man, that man should take these questions seriously at some point.
